...and go to the squad list you can find a really big squad pretty easily. They're usually not private.

You are right of course that you don't have to dedicate serious hours, but you also make the point that you have to spend money to get weapons. If you play to get weapons you will have to spend a huge amount of time. A weapon comes in at around 1000 certs. You will earn anywhere between 100 to 200 game spendable certs for every 10+ hour game session. A more realistic earning for a new player is probably 50 certs per 4 hour session.
