but many were wounded, some of whom will have their lives shortened...

I am sure that some of the victims from this mass shooting have already passed, partially as a result of having been wounded during the attack.

Same was even more true for 9/11 victims and the first responders.

And many other mass shootings.

Why does the memorial have to be centered around the number that died the day of the shooting?
