for 4 years in the early 2000s, writing free wills for tribal members on reservations in my part of Washington state, so that they could gift their land share to their descendants, rather than having it further "fractionated" through intestacy - divided up among all their descendants by default.

Fractionation applied European practices of devise to native lands and land holders.

One of a million crimes against humanity perpetrated on Indigenous people here when invaded and subordinated by European settlers.
