9. Fills airtime. Gives them something to spring on people at the "water cooler"

They started this when the first fax machines came out. Blast faxes could be signed up for and that one guy in the office would get these and have basically fake news to inject into conversations. I think Norquist was involved but I'm not sure. Fox News picked this up - they got stories out lightning fast to direct the conversation or at least derail it.
