Yeah? Look harder. Why do you think banning home ownership of rocket propelled grenades didn't "solve" anything? Or mobile missile launchers?

Except that home ownership of those isn't actually banned.

As an avid hunter who is a good shot with my .223 I mostly agree with this guy. Anyone who seriously knows about guns doesn't want them strapped to idiots at Chili's or available to any psycho with a grudge. No one who knows weapons wants Joe Militia packing a converted to fully automatic AR.

Except that most of us desire for people like you to find a way to keep those people away from guns, while leaving the rest of us alone. And people like you are *gasp* generally not interested in so called 'solutions' unless they directly effect people that value their rights to own keep and carry a gun. But you'll still get to keep your fudd rifle right? What do you care...

But we absolutely should be banning certain types of weapon and we always have and do so now.

No we really haven't, and no, generally, we really don't. Even machineguns tanks and military aircraft can be owned, fully armed and legal. You don't know what you're talking about.

What's the difference between banning that and banning a semi-auto magazine size or anything g else?

A lot, since those other things aren't actually banned.

Gun control has been the norm in this country for a long time.

That's your opinion, and certainly not an established fact.

Frontier sheriffs used to confiscate guns at the city limits. Even the Wild West had fucking gun control

Stop getting your 'facts' from movies like Tombstone. That ONLY pertained to the carrying of guns, not the OWNERSHIP of guns. On the other hand, when people were released from prison, they were handed their guns back at the gate, in the wild west. Is that gun control you support? How about that there were no age limits or disqualifying offenses? Is that gun control you support too?

Lets just lay this talking point to rest:

Please state clearly and unequivocally for the record, that you'd trade todays gun laws for those of the wild west.

I've proposed that many many times over the years, to date, never a single taker.

Will you be the first? Guess not:

Point of fact: having discovered that any time I post this sentiment on DU the response is the usual irrational pseudo-legal wailing of butthurt gun nuts, I won't be returning to read this thread.

For a supposed 'gunner' you sure are apt at the art of the anti-gun driveby post, and poor at sticking around to debate and support your position. Gee, from whom have I seen that before... If you didn't come to this group to discuss, in line with our SOP, what did you come here for then? Oh, nevermind:

I suspect most of them need guns to make up for their small packages.

Well, you may not discuss or debate, but you're indeed very good at putting forth your position in a completely transparent way.
