I don't generally begrudge an animal doing what is in their nature to do, and I don't like killing, but I do draw the line at moles and animals that destroy our gardens. With moles I have had sucess by eliminating their food source of grubs with Grub-X or the like. The other method involves two shovels. When you see active movement of the ground from tunneling, plunge a shovel into the ground as close behind the movement as possible blocking their escape. Then plunge the other (sharper?) shovel into the ground where the mole is trapped. A good sharp potato fork will do as well. You'll know when you've made the kill and you can leave it where it is, already buried. I know it sounds barbaric but look at what they've done to your yard.
