8. I gave up alcohol about 15 years ago

I just stopped. I know it's not that easy for most people. My older brother loves AA, he is very involved. But he is very religious, I am an atheist. I do not agree with the message of AA, that people are weak, and in need of a higher power. It was the same for me when I gave up cigarettes, 13 years ago. I just stopped. I saved 1 cigarette, to prove to myself that I wasn't just out of smokes, I quit. That single cigarette is still here in my desk. I hope your husband has the strength to quit, for your sake and his.
