2. I one time commented, in some significant detail, some of this e-fuel bullshit in a series of scientific papers.

It's here: A Detailed Thermodynamic Accounting of a Route to Obtaining World Motor Fuels from Solar and Wind.

That's always what this bullshit is about, the unsupportable belief that electricity all comes from solar and wind. It doesn't. It's overwhelmingly made from fossil fuels, and as such is thermodynamically degraded.

The post analyzes these papers:

Production of Oxymethylene Dimethyl Ethers from Hydrogen and Carbon Dioxide—Part I: Modeling and Analysis for OME1 (Mitsos et al, Ind. Eng. Chem. Res., 2019, 58 (12), pp 4881–4889)

Production of Oxymethylene Dimethyl Ethers from Hydrogen and Carbon Dioxide—Part II: Modeling and Analysis for OME3–5 (Mitsos et al, Ind. Eng. Chem. Res., 2019, 58 (14), pp 5567–5578) and it includes (from the papers) Sankey diagrams about the exergy destroyed in the process:

Figure 7. Sankey diagram of exergy flows within the reference process chain for the production of 1 kg of OME3–5. Gray boxes denote the different process steps, and percentages are the exergy efficiencies of these separate steps. Overall exergy efficiency from H2 to OME3–5 is 53%

The Sankey diagram does not include the exergy destruction with making the hydrogen. When it is included, the overall efficiency of the process falls to 38%.

But who cares if we waste energy to advertise that we're "green?" Why give a fuck about the collapse of the planetary atmosphere when we can distract attention by cute little schemes to pretend we're not doing what we are doing?

It's not like Denmark has any attention, other than lip service, of stopping the drilling of oil and gas in the North Sea. They don't.

From the Danish Energy Agency: Oil and gas are important to the Danish economy One can also find on the Danish Energy Agency's website how much oil and gas they drilled since 1972: Yearly production, injection, flare, fuel and export in SI units

Of course, if you ask the average credulous rube about energy in Denmark, they'll tell you all about wind turbines.

A Sankey Diagram of the overall energy picture of Denmark gives a more realistic picture of Danish Energy flows:

Like pretty much every fucking "Renewable Energy Will Save Us" paper, it's a soothsaying paper. Three years after its publication there is no intention of shutting oil and gas wells run by the Danes in the North Sea. In fact, you can still apply, as of 2025, for a drilling license from the Danish Government.

If you do, be sure to post pictures of wind turbines and an article about making trivial amounts of "electrofuels" to advertise that you're green.

Rather than waste electricity on cheap little Potemkin scams, the Danes, if they really have extra electricity to waste on electrofuels, (they really don't, their electricity climate intensity is 300% higher than France's) should ship it to those antinuke German assholes to keep them from burning coal along with the gas the Norwegians and Danes are happy to sell them.
