...I try to be very reasonable and calm but always very firm that the situation is verifiably UN-deniable, there things we CAN do to decrease the misery ahead, and that by not trying to do all we can, WE are responsible for that misery.

I don't see any other choice except to just accept it all, and I won't be doing that.
