12. Yes, take the ink cartridges out

Then squirt away. I resurrected one that sat idle in a friends garage for two years. Alcohol and new ink cartridges.

On edit: I also prepared a basic test sheet in Illustrator - just four big rectangles of cyan, magenta, yellow and black and used that for the test printing, to get all four colours running well.
