4. The cyclone is nowhere near me

It's roughly 1200 kms north - on a similar latitude to Orlando Florida, except it's south not north of equator.

My sister lives just outside the northern extents of the cyclone - it passed her, out to sea on the journey south. Queenslanders seem to be pretty stoic about cyclones. This one has been on the radar for ten or twelve days, with the track changing a couple of times. It has also stalled a few times - such as now.

I can't recall a cyclone making landfall as far south as this - Brisbane and the Gold Coast are in for a hammering. Alfred is big and slow and severe storm surges are expected. There were 12m waves at Surfer's Paradise yesterday. I'd like to have seen that.
