H-E-B rallies $5M for food banks amid SNAP funding threats [View all]
      
      As the federal government shutdown stretches closer to November, with it runs the risk of SNAP food benefit cuts for almost 42 million people in the U.S.  but "Texas' FEMA" is stepping in to help aid Texans in need.
San Antonio-based grocery chain H-E-B announced on Friday, October 24, it is donating $5 million to Feeding Texas' network of partnering food banks, as well as an additional $1 million to Meals on Wheels Texas and its statewide programs. H-E-B officials said the goal of those donations is to support Texas children, adults and older residents who struggle with food insecurity.
Officials noted the dual donations come "at a time when a growing number of Texas families are facing hunger throughout our communities," the announcement read in part.
Data provided by Feeding Texas revealed the Lone Star State is home to the highest food insecurity population in America, with an estimated 5.3 million Texans facing the crisis. That level of food insecurity has only grown among Texans impacted, increasing from 16.4% in 2022 to 17.6% in 2023.

I have my own issues with HEB but when chips are down in Texas and elsewhere they are always there to lend a hand.
I rarely shop there anymore. Buy my meat from a local butcher; most vegetables from farmers markets and the rest from Walmart. 
We only have 2 choices where I live HEB and Walmart.
