Why Cuomo can't win NYC mayoral election even if Sliwa drops out [View all]
1. There's an unrealistic expectation that a majority of Sliwa voters will shift to Cuomo.
2. Sliwa voters won't necessarily and arbitrarily vote on Election Day. Given their view that their chosen candidate was forced out of the race, they may either stay home or do write-in votes for Sliwa.
3. With the heightened partisanship in the country, highly unlikely a Republican will vote for a Democrat with a Hobson's Choice mentality. (A Hobson's choice is a free choice in which only one thing is actually offered. The term is often used to describe an illusion that choices are available. The best-known example is "I'll give you a choice: Take it or leave it", wherein "leaving it" is strongly undesirable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hobson%27s_choice)
4. Cuomo isn't exactly popular after his scandals. (Ironic since Sliwa has a few of his own.)
5. While WABC and The New York Post (Murdoch) have been crapping over Sliwa, they can't find anything to say in support of Cuomo, except that at least Mamdani won't be running the City.
6. Mamdani is riding a huge Blue Wave towards victory at the moment. His voters are not about to abandon him.
