Republican Darrell Issa, bolstered by self-funding, outraised Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar by more than $1 million during the fundraising period that ended Sept. 30, the latest Federal Election Commission reports show.

Issa, who had represented a different San Diego County congressional district for 18 years, led the way in fundraising June through the end of September, raising nearly $2.9 million in his campaign committee. He reported having more than $1.27 million cash on hand at the end of September.
Campa-Najjar, a San Diego State University lecturer who narrowly lost a race for the seat in 2018, raised more than $1.76 million during that stretch. He reported having $1.22 million in cash on hand at the end of September.
