I picked up a nondescript six-string over 50 years ago and got recently proficient on the basic chords. I was out to sea with a lot of time on my hands, practicing for hours, developing calluses on my fretting fingertips. In a careless moment, I pressed the thinnest string at an odd angle and broke the callus deeper than I liked. Took two months to heal properly, by which time I was reluctant to get back up on that particular horse.

All considered, my left hand is still in decent shape, but I would have to pace myself with the right hand, which has endured many years of repetitive motion, and I don’t want to develop carpal tunnel at this stage of life. I may explore more ‘ergonomic’ ways to make noises.
