This song caused quite a bruhaha in its day when it was first broadcast on The Smothers Brothers Show. Here, Seeger first talks about the controversy on "Democracy Now," then Amy Goodman shows a tape of Seeger singing the song on the TV show. Amy also reveals that Pete was under surveillance for over 30 years by the U.S. government.
