Back in the day, we didn't get out of school without being able to do the conversions in our heads. And metric makes any math so much easier.

I use paper patterns exclusively, along with tracing paper. The adapted pattern, with all its changes, gets traced out and that's the paper that gets cut. The original pattern stays pristine and can be used over and over, even for people of different sizes. I've got quite a collection of uncut Kwik Sew and Folkwear.
