18. They make sugar-free Peeps. Made with Splenda.

The taste is not much different from Peeps that are slightly stale.
(Husband is diabetic, he's allowed one a day)

And yes, it can be done - just like sugar free meringues. I've made meringues with Splenda that turned out almost as good as ones made with powdered sugar. They have just a touch of an alcohol off taste that can be mitigated some with adding flavor with a teaspoon of sugar-free syrup or flavored balsamic vinegar (a farmer's market vendor has both peach and blackberry infused balsamic vinegar) added in while you're whipping the egg-white. (You need to add a bit of vinegar anyway when you make meringues for candy or fruit shells, helps it "bake" with more crisp.)

I'd like to have done it with Monks-fruit sweetener, which has a fruity "off taste" rather than that slightly metallic or alcohol "off taste" one gets from other zero calorie sweeteners, but Splenda is the only one with the right consistency to make them; all the others tend to be too grainy.
