Looks like X Factor's way of dealing with sagging ratings is to up the mental cruelty factor [View all]

The "four chair challenge" thing last night was utter horse crap, because Kelly Rowland and Demi Lovato BOTH let their first four contestants through so that they could "have a seat."

The whole point of this seems to be frequent shots to the "winners" squirming and grimacing in their chairs as the other contestants perform. Once the four chairs are filled, subsequent "winners" only win by having their "judge" unseat one of the people in those chairs.

The other thing that was a little sick and desperate was the fact that almost every contestant "talked back" to the judge before voting as a way of "pleading their case," saying they will "work hard and give their all.."
