5. When Comcast raised their prices above what we were willing to pay we quit.

I think we were paying $29 a month for cable then and their price was going up to $35 or $40. I don't remember what year that was. I do remember it was before Comcast became an internet provider.

My wife and I currently budget up to $35 a month for television, which is usually two or three commercial-free streaming services. We don't watch any advertising supported television, not since we quit cable/satellite/broadcast television many years ago.

These days I find television advertising intolerable. I would never go back to "traditional" television.

If I can no longer make television commercials go away for less than $35 a month then our television will go back to being a DVD/BluRay player exclusively, just as it was when one of our kids first set us up with Netflix.

I got the email that Netflix is raising their price from ten dollars a month to twelve. I'll take that into consideration the next time we revise our lineup of streaming services.

My wife and I don't consider television to be any kind of necessity. This may have something to do with the environments we were raised in. When I was a kid there were times, often lasting many months, and once an entire year, when we didn't have a working television at all. My parents simply didn't think television was all that important back when televisions and television repairs were expensive. Neither did me or my siblings.
