My nephew Matt has two Shibas. When he and his wife Olena and daughter Naomi left Ukraine, they had to leave them behind with friends in the countryside as their papers did not come through in time. After they got settled in Portugal, Matt returned to Ukraine for them. It was a bit of a saga getting them out but they, too, are now safely in Portugal.

Shibas are spitz type dogs. I owned a Norwegian Elkhound once. They shed the same way, apparently. Tansy "blew coat" twice a year, at which time she looked like a cattail gone to seed as the undercoat came out and laid on top of the top coat. Brush her every day for a week and not again until the next shed. Easy peasy!
