for the truth about everything and my desire for justice/fair play.

She said people tend to shy away from both.

Said the truth made people feel exposed and that since justice often demands the truth, justice will forever be manipulated by those afraid of the truth. That people, not all people, but that people see both as a danger. No matter what they say openly, they'll settle for a version of truth and a version of justice that doesn't require great effort or a loss of face (to their thinking) on their part.

That a good/acceptable story or narrative will take the place of both instead.

People can live with a feel good story better than they can live with the truth.
