He'd tried numerous businesses, casinos, Trump steaks, Trump vodka, the infamous Trump University - which ended up costing him money. So he decided to try "running for office" and grifting money from donors. And that worked so well for him that he can't give it up - he continued with his "rallies" rather than actually doing the job...
