Would it that it hadn't been so.

But J. Edgar was, I think, the closest thing this country ever had to a dictator - more even than El Cheetolísimo.

Trump, after all, was in power just 4 years - and never really managed to hijack power, over both the public and private sector, in the way Hoover did or for 27 years (effectively, after FDR died) like Hoover did.

Though not for lack of trying, that's for sure.
