The people are changeable and probably unstable.

Just like "Don't Look Up" or the next humongous volcanic eruption, we will face extinction.

Sometimes dealing with the imminent threat, such as an unstable psychopath with nuclear weapons, with strength is better than waiting for them to deal with us. Yes, very unpleasant. But perhaps survivable.
