The social dilemma explains how the business model of online firms inadvertently is making people believe dangerous conspiracy theories. How could millions of people be persuaded that the earth is flat? How can millions believe Hillary Clinton has sex with children and then eats them? That seems impossible. But mass insanity is real and it is expandIng dangerously. This documentary which interviews former senior executives at Facebook, Twitter, etc explains exactly why this is happening. It is an unintended consequence of artificial intelligence deployed to maximize online profits.
