6. I had a friend post this on FB and the response was shocking

An old friend who had been a big pothead hippie the last time I hung out with him (about 6 years ago) has apparently turned into a big gun nut and started bombarding the thread with all sorts of posts about women needing to conceal carry and make sure the gun was holstered and easily accessible. When he was politely told that wasn't the point, he got even more belligerent and started posting a bunch of sexist links about how women should defend themselves. When someone with a gay pride symbol for their avatar responded, he posted something about the need for gays to carry. When the friend who had posted the initial story took the post down, he started posting on her wall about being too much of a coward to debate gun rights.

I've never been big about the term "rape culture" - mostly because I was brought up to respect women and don't think that way - it was shocking to see such a frankly scary example from a formerly close friend who I used to get baked at Dead shows with.
