It paints the whole party.

As the polls and the OP show, almost everyone is for universal background checks; if it were just that the hackles wouldn't have been raised so far and so fast.

Plus consider than gun owners are portrayed so negatively in the press, and yea, in DU... why would gun owners feel compelled to cooperate?
