Most mass murderers do not have criminal records or a history of psychiatric hospitalization until the shooting. The last 3 high profile shooters could all pass the background checks being proposed. For it to have any impact the law would have to be massively expanded..how far should we go? Ever felt depressed? No 2A for you. Ever taken medication from this list? No 2A for you. Oops lanza stole his mothers guns...have a family treated for mental illness, depression, anxiety? No 2A for you. Neighbor think your a "loner who seems odd" No rights for you. In order to enforce stricter mental health restrictions we will have to surrender access to our health/psychiatric records and/or turn docs into spies. We already have problems getting people to seek help who need it, how many more people won't seek treatment for fear of going on some list? Universal checks will accomplish NOTHING concerning gun violence. Its a bs way of making the masses think their rulers did something. & the NRA bogyman is a myth. NRA spent less than 3 million in 2012 in campaigns that involved billions. They were outspent by AARP, ACLU, and nearly every union in the country. Blaming the NRA lobby is a way for politicians who are COWARDS to say "no, no, dont be mad at me HEY LOOK OVER THERE"
