No wonder Trump is nonchalant about shutdown. It delays Epstein files' release. Opinion [View all]
Welcome to Day 1 of President Donald Trump's pointless government shutdown, which also happens to be Day 254 of his second term and preventing the release of the Epstein files.

It sure looks that way to U.S. Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva, a Democrat who resoundingly won a special election for a U.S. House seat in Arizona's 7th District recently with 68.9% of the vote.
Grijalva was in Washington, DC, on Sept. 30, the deadline for Congress to fund the government or shut it down, hoping to be sworn in that day and get to work.
Democrats packed the chamber for a procedural session and chanted "swear her in" as House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, ignored them and Grijalva and the people of Arizona's 7th District.
Johnson, who follows any order Trump gives him, has placed Grijalva's oath of office on ice.
