understanding of history and reality. Religious extremism is not compatible with a free society. That is what the Muslim Brotherhood represent. The Egyptian military is mostly a product of secular rulers, such as Nasser,Sadat and Mubarak. I think Nasser was an ally of Assad's father. I also read Assad's father trained with the Egyptian military. The conflict with the military and Muslim Brotherhood goes way back. It was the same way in Syria. Assad's father killed thousands of supporters for the Muslim Brotherhood, and you heard very little from the U.S. or U.N. That is why Egypt and Syria were under a state of emergency for so long. They have a problem with religious fanatics like the Muslim Brotherhood. The Army is more secular. Morsi stepped over the line when he called for Jihad in Syria. The Army probably saw that as a threat.
