30. Drugs seems to be an acceptable excuse for most bad things everywhere at any time.

The political class has used it historically to justify bad behavior since the early 20th Century. First the temperance and anti-opium movement, and then of course the "War on Drugs" in the 70s. It is always used as the root cause of our social problems like crime and poverty. ( I always think of Reagan supporting illegal drugs for Iran/Contra while screaming "Just Say No" )

So here we go again - fight them drugs in Venezuela, in China and mask the real issues like regime change and economic competition.

So the illegality of the US attacking a sovereign nation is ignored and the drug issues become the issue.

It works and has worked for a century - why stop?
