40. History may not repeat but it does rhyme. The U.S. House being closed has a frightening parallel.

On 23 March 1933 (just a little over 7 weeks after Hitler was appointed Chancellor) the German Reichstag (after being purged of all Communist members under the Reichstag Fire Decree which allowed Hilter to arrest and detain "subversives" without trial - sound familiar?) passed the Enabling Act (full German title "Law to Remedy the Distress of People and Reich" - sound familiar). The Enabling Act gave Hitler virtually unlimited emergency (plenary - sound familiar?) powers for four years (sound familiar). Effectively the Reichstag voted itself out of existence except for special sessions to provide Hitler a stage to deliver his major diatribes (sound familiar?).

Is there any real reason to think MAGAt Mike will ever call the House back into session?
