I'll just note that they were "helped along" in their opinion mightily by the propaganda tsunami generated by Bush & Cheney.

Two years after 9/11 attack (thanks to the constant bullshit out of the White House) 63% of people thought it was likely that Saddam Hussein was personally involved.
