"Some Venezuelans distrust her as a result of thinly veiled calls for a foreign military intervention to unseat Maduro in the past. She argued in 2019 that only a a real, credible severe and imminent threat of the use of international force would convince Maduro to leave power.
Others are suspicious of her ties to radical rightwing politicians such as Trump and Brazils former president Jair Bolsonaro."

"In September, the U.S. military attacked a Venezuelan speedboat carrying 11 people. The army claimed that the boat was carrying drug traffickers, but Venezuela insisted that only fishermen were on board.
Tensions between Venezuela and America soared following the attack, but Machado insisted to The Sunday Times that Trump was right to bomb the boat.
I totally support his strategy, Machado said. And Ive said on behalf of the Venezuelan people that we are very grateful. I think it is the right thing to do. Its courageous. Its visionary."
