so that he can then activate the Insurrection Act, as if our major cities are burning down as appeared to be happening in the LA Riots during the Bush Sr. administration.
I recall being on Hollywood Blvd the evening before the riots, just after the police who beat Rodney King were acquitted. A very peaceful, very diverse march had been hastily organized in front of the Roosevelt Hotel. The marchers were well behaved and the only thing unlawful was that, perhaps, they did not have a permit to march down the street. Several rows of LA police in full riot gear then quickly showed up with their shields drawn, seeming ready to do battle, and the marchers and onlookers quickly dispersed.
What happened the next day in Los Angeles is probably Trump's wet dream for Portland, Chicago, and any other blue democratic city, in order for him to claim that there is an active insurrection taking place within the US.
As Los Angeles has more recently demonstrated during Trump's illegal Federal invasion this summer, we do not have to take the bait. While there were a few acts of vandalism within a very restricted area of the city, it did not amount to an insurrection requiring massive action by Federal troops or the Federalized National Guard. Trump's claims to the contrary are obvious lies, and Federal judges are now calling him out on this.
We need to keep pushing back with all the judicial and law enforcement resources we can muster. Pritzker seems to have the Chicago city and Illinois state police on his side. Trump's illegally behaving forces will be vastly outnumbered and vastly outlawyered.
