I have seen government corruption and efforts to root it out, some more effective than others. I agree that the US, while not incorruptible, does not have a normalized culture of corruption where it is just expected that a little bribe to officials and police is the norm and the more effective way of getting things done.

Growing up in the US I do not remember ever giving an actual bribe to any US governmental official. And as a former state and federal employee for many years I do not remember ever taking a bribe either.

Things are different in some other parts of the world and Patel and Musk may well have different subconscious expectations.

I applaud your perspicacity.
