12. US does not recognize Taiwan as a sovereign nation

Seems like this another rising crisis - but it doesnt have to be.
We do not recognize Taiwan as a sovereign nation, so why would we invest blood and money to defend them against China?
There are only 13 countries that recognize Taiwan as a state, none of which are the United States.
