4. Because ever since Dobbs, I've refused to deny that it is a part of women's necessary health care

The fanatics enabled by Dobbs have redefined a D&C as abortion. I’m 75, and when my mother was having her babies and her miscarriages only a damn fool would have deliberately let a woman bleed out from a miscarriage, or to continue on a menstrual pad for months due to *tissue left behind from a less-bad miscarriage. Both of which happened to my mom. Emergency surgery was needed for the first — and a D&C was needed to resolve the other. This was not “abortion.”

In red states right now there are women on the brink of death for lack of care that was standard 3/4 of a century ago because some damn fool in a legislature thinks an electrical pulse is a “heartbeat” and also believes women are less valuable and less sentient than cattle.

I was raised in an era when girls were taught that abortion was shameful and that the very word was dirty. I’ve been pro-choice since Roe. But it was Dobbs that stripped me of my squeamishness forever, and now I say: I Am Pro-Abortion.

I Am Pro-Abortion.

* Note for those who may not know: tissue left behind from a miscarriage leaves the uterus open to infection which leaves the woman’s body open to sepsis which is often fatal. Mom was lucky she got away with anemia before our family doc noticed how ill she looked and ordered her in for, yes, a D&C.
