Fixed it for you, there are a couple of key technologies right on the cusp that may do just that, cheaper, safer, but we need the bridge to the time when they get brought up to speed.

We do need a game plan for disposal of waste, and a forward thinking plan to bridge the gap to new tech would include that. But there’s our problem, and that’s the problem I still have with nuclear energy. Nobody wants it in their backyard. And I’m not sure I want to space this stuff, as one launch disaster would have the potential to release a lot of pain and misery on purely random people.

We have so many issues right now, failure to attend to the right one will ultimately lead to our demise. Resources are scarce, so as always, politically, which is where this stuff gets debated and decided it’s going to be a crapshoot as to whether we spend those resources on the right ones.

I don’t even want to touch population stabilization, as I have a sinking feeling that’s going to take care of itself.
