(160,838 posts)but it was the "vaunted" 538, that like Gallup through to the 2012 election, tended to have their "analysis" given "more weight" by the pundits across all of the political outlets (print and broadcast).
When Gallup blew their 2012 prediction for the Presidential election by having Romney beating Obama, they did an analysis and published a paper of "what went wrong" (their "likely voter" assumptions were completely off) and they eventually bowed out of doing the "Presidential trial heat" daily tracking ever again. Meanwhile 538 has admitted nothing despite the fact that it had been pointed out to them that they were using an unusual number of and higher weighting for GOP-commissioned polls in their models.
I am glad there is someone in the pipeline in AZ.
