When my nephew got out of jail after serving time for a felony, my BIL had to get rid of his own gun that he'd had for years before nephew could move in with his parents. Nephew was not even allowed to live under the same roof with any kind of firearm, no matter who the owner was.
Here's an odd thing, though: according to my sister, they were also required to get their dog neutered before nephew could move in with them. I never did hear the explanation for that, but I was very pleased to hear that he was forced to get that dog snipped. He had been dragging his feet about it for too long.
