63. Oh geez--forgot about when I worked at an automotive plant

I totally forgot about the 2 years I worked in IT at an auto manufacturing plant. The IT company was separate from the automotive company, they contracted out their IT to my company. My company required males to wear suit and tie and women to wear suits as well, but they had to be skirts—no pants allowed. I had to walk through the plant to get to the offices upstairs. You’d think these men had never seen a female in their lives. They would literally stop what they were doing and stare at me the whole time I walked down the plant floor to get to the stairs that would take me up to my office. And, speaking of those stairs, they were steel mesh and some of the men would also sit under them so they could look up women’s skirts when they walked up the stairs. Classy, huh?

Well, I just made sure to wear shorts under my skirt and I’d go right up to the men standing there staring and start a conversation. You never saw so much stammering and red faces. After awhile they would simply call out “hi” as I walked down the plant floor and go back to their work. I also noticed they would not allow anyone to sit under the stairs when I walked up them.

It never occurred to me to get stressed out about the behavior. I just thought “ok, I know how to deal with this type.” And I did.
