4. I like Maher's description of him as a "50s guy"

He's got no use for the relatively high minimum wage that kept this country booming while recessions were shallow or the regulation of banks that caused the thieves to stick to the mob instead of the places they later did so much damage. No, the 50s he wants to come back were a decade where white males were on top (unless they were poor) and everybody else knew their subordinate place in a clear cut hierarchy of social value. Schools were segregated and teenagers dressed like they were born 40 years old. He loved that world, as did a lot of white males who weren't poor. Even some women loved the 50s, they didn't have to make any uncomfortable choices.

But yeah, his personal style hasn't changed since the 80s, a decade of surface glitz covering up the rot that was starting to happen.
