No conspiracy needed, just common cause. So no, I do not need linear, causal proof to suspect the connection - just years of observing a complex social system. The proof, such as it is, comes from observing the echoes of this event and the next, and the next, to see if they reveal the synomorphic patterns of inverted totalitarianism, or the bright shining village that Hillary wants to raise your children in.
