She was the editor of nine books on U.S. Constitutional law. She also authored Profiles in Courage For our Time, and serves on the John F. Kennedy Foundation.

One does not have to be an attorney at all to be appointed to the Supreme Court, although I personally think it is helpful! But she does have a law degree from Columbia.
