(75,480 posts)To refine it, the one percent isn't just American interests but all the global energy, banking and worldwide military interests that operate in this country, like BP, Trans Canada, all the banking interests, Monsanto, etc.. These are all the horrors brought to us like the WTO from NAFTA and CAFTA and soon the new one on the horizon that is being pushed for, I think TPP, isn't it.
We could start with making them get out of our country. Then we need to go after our domestic oligarchies like Koch Industries and WalMart as well as many others. I think banks should go back to being allowed only to be incorporated in one state like they once were. Just so much needs to be done.
But my point in this thread is we have to unite to do this not fight each other. I hate what the cops are doing to black people. But the cops are civil service employees and often underpaid ones doing a dangerous job. Our elected representatives need to change police department cultures and we need to pressure them to do it. Then white, black, civilian or civil servant we need to join together in common cause.
Years ago when I belonged to a union, we went out on strike. This was a company that hired minorities so there were many black and hispanic employees on the picket lines. The mostly white police cruised around regularly to make sure no scabs were hurt and gave us news on negotiations. Sometimes they even brought us sodas for both white and strikers of color because it was summer and very hot. Of course they were on our side because they too were union members back then. We had common cause and that's what's needed now.
