The original material was stone. Stone that had been underwater for decades. So, they painted it. Whatever the coating was, it will not adhere well to old stone that has been underwater that long. So, it will begin flaking off within a year or two, regardless of the type of coating that was used.

Then, you'll have a blotchy background. Algae spores will be brought to the pool by the many birds that visit it. It will grow, due to the warmer water caused by the dark color of the coating. Rinse and repeat.

The thing should have been left alone. It had stabilized over the years. The coating is a new introduction that is not nearly as durable as the original stone. So, it will deteriorate relatively quickly, regardless of the type of coating that was used.

Trump is a moron. He hired morons. He paid far too much for something that cannot work.
