I belong to a group that gathers over New Year’s every year. It was founded by Democrats, was mostly for Democrats, but to liven things up, also invited some outspoken Republicans for the purpose of breaking up the monotony, and so we could hear what we’re up against. We even have Richard Viguerie, who, to us, is the Devil incarnate. He is also very friendly, which makes things complicated and frustrating, because we all hate what he says and stands for. Richard is over 90 now, but he is still sharp as a tack and still both active and dangerous.

Why do you think Norm Ornstein stayed at the American Enterprise Institute for so many decades as a “resident scholar?” It was not because he agreed with them, but precisely because he didn’t. Think of the presence of Moore and Booker at an event like this to be more of an infiltration than an act of treason. It wouldn’t surprise me to hear that there was some back room talk among the organizers along the lines of, “I know we invited them, for appearances’ sake, but damn, what in the world possessed them to accept?” There is no reason why Trojan horses are required to be limited to Troy.
