There: Fixed it for the next 50+ years.
Too extreme? The following suggestion from Pete Buttigieg when he was running for President (with some of my own suggestions):, all of which would require a Constitutional amendment:

15 Justices - 5 reserved for the Democratic and Republican parties. The other 5 would require the consent of at least 4 justices on each side. There; we have an impartial SCOTUS.

Additions of mine:
No cases could be heard in the event of the death or resignation of any justice.
No case could be voted on in the event of the death or resignation of any justice.
12 year term-limit
Strict recusal rules
Strict ethics rules enforceable by an non-partisan board with the authority to fine or remove a justice.
All justices would be required to place all of their assets except their primary home, and if acquired, a vacation home, into a blind trust so we can be assured they will not be self-dealing. Since these trusts cost money to run, we the taxpayers should pay that cost as our price to ensure their honesty.
